New Job

Well, thought I’d quickly update this. I found a new job, finally! I’ve been working there for just over a month now and it’s pretty great. I really like the people that work there and it’s so good to have both of us working close to home and of course having money come in. I’m an Accounting Clerk, basically I handle most of the accounts payable stuff. It’s a small company though so I wear many hats! I get to do a little bit of collections, filing, answering the phones, etc. Good times! That’s all the news for now though.

Well, I haven’t posted anything in so long.

I love living in Sycamore. We both do. It’s small, quiet, the downtown is clean and people are friendly. The local diner and grocery store are quaint. Now if only one of us could find a better job. Brennan’s still working at the POL and really likes his job and the people he works with, the only problem is that it doesn’t offer health insurance and he hasn’t had a raise in at least three years. I’ve been looking for a job, sometimes really looking and sometimes lazily looking, for the past 5 months but haven’t found anything. There aren’t many office jobs in this area and that’s what I’m probably most qualified for. But I’ve applied at the local stores, hospital, schools, etc. without a bite yet. Fingers crossed that I can find something soon or that I can go back to school soon for the MLS or Pastry Chef degree.

That’s about it! Brennan works, I take care of the apartment, and aside from being a little short on money, we’re really, really happy.

Lots of exciting things happening in our world. With the help of my dad, Tim, Ted and Denni, and Adam and Jesse, we moved to our new apartment in Sycamore. It is cozy and cute. It feels a little smaller than our old place even though it is the same square feet. We can’t fit all of our furniture in it, it’s going to take some finagaling. Is that a word? Anyhoo, the most important thing is that it’s closer to Brennan’s work so we’ll save a lot of the money we spent on commuting, and it is ~$500 less than what we were paying. No, I haven’t found a new job yet. I’m so drained from the year spent commuting and from all the medical stuff that I’m taking a month off. I’m applying for some stuff and keeping my eyes open for anything, but not looking to actively at the moment. We’re focusing our energy on the IVF, getting back into shape, and settling in our new home.

Our IVF involves a lot of doctors visits and a lot of medicine and it’s made it hard to focus on anything else, even though we do have stuff to focus on like me quitting my job and our move. Exercise and healthy eating seem to have gotten lost in the hustle. They say that going through IVF is the second most stressful thing after losing a loved one. Even more than losing a job or getting a divorce. I’m sure that varies depending on the person, but it helps me feel a little more validated in how I’ve been feeling. The medicine has made me very weepy. I’m not a crier, but seem to bawl over everything these days. Poor Brennan. He’s being wonderful though. He gives me two shots a night in the stomach and I think it’s harder on him than on me. The meds have thrown my body and my emotions for a loop. I’m really bloated and full-feeling. But the follistim worked and I’ve got LOTS of nice, fat follicles. haha. This is a big week for us. We just found out that we’re doing the egg retrieval monday and the transfer will be 3-5 days after that. I’ll basically be home-ridden next week, but it’ll be worth it if it means we can finally get pregnant. Now if only Mary Poppins would drop by and unpack for us. We’re practicing cautious optimism right now. I can’t help feeling that if I get too optimistic, it’s going to jinx it somehow. Sometimes, even though we’ve been blessed in so many ways, it seems like everything that can go wrong in our lives does go wrong.

Baby Making

Brennan and I have been trying to get pregnant since we got married: 12/06. We tried for two years and then sought help. We know some of the problems I have that are preventing it, like an ovulatory dysfunction resulting in low progesterone, but it appears that there are additional problems (none of them Brennan’s fault, apparently he’s got super-sperm). We’ve had 3 failed IUI’s, though one of them resulted in a chemical pregnancy. I’m having a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy June 9th to see if there is (and remove) any scar tissue, endometriosis, abrasions, etc. that might be keeping us from getting pregnant. About six weeks after the surgery we are starting IVF. So, for anyone interested, that’s the plan! We’re relieved to be moving on to the next step and are staying positive in our thoughts.

Easter

Easter was wonderful this year. Brennan and I got up early to be at my mom’s church at 7am. They were serving an Easter breakfast from 8-9:30 and we helped prepare and cook. Brennan made sausages and I scrambled eggs. It was a lot of fun cooking with some of the women from the church, everyone was friendly, upbeat and joking around. Mostly it was fun serving others. That always feels good. Also, we were sitting across from this really nice man, Erik, who plays the guitar, piano, and drums. I remember seeing him play in the praise band before some services, but he has played with other local bands. We had a great conversation about biking – he actually put an electric motor on his bicycle. Uncle Wally, Jackie, Alex and Joe sat with us at breakfast too and it was so great catching up with them. Alex is doing track and swimming and keeping really busy with his sea cadets stuff (it gets kids prepared for a career in the Navy, I think). Joe was energetic and goofy as always. haha. He’s into webkins, but not legos so much anymore. heehee.

We went to the 10:00 service and I sat in between Brennan and mom. There was a lot of rocking music. I had trouble paying attention because of how tired I was, I’m not a fan of church anyway, but I’m glad we went. It was a positive experience.

My mom made some ceramic eggs and bunnies and other things to give as prizes to some people who attended the breakfast. I had a sticker under my placemat so I got one. I picked out a green egg. It wasn’t rigged, I swear!
